Summary
No neighborhood in New York City remains the same as when it first emerged. Porous boundaries, demographic changes, and different eras of development all prevent them from freezing in time. Within every change there are layers of history coexisting and informing each other. From its beginnings as a racecourse in the Gilded Age to the bustlingly diverse commercial corridor it is today, how does the community of Morris Park celebrate these many layers of history and change?
Please join us on Thursday, April 3rd at the Community Board 11 office from 5:30-7:30 PM for an Enduring Culture Spotlight where we will delve into the many incredible layers of the Morris Park community. Coffee, tea, and light bites will be provided.
Speakers include Yahay Obeid, executive director of the Bronx Islamic Center, Dr. Camelia Tepelus, executive director of the Morris Park Business Improvement District, and Richard Vitacco, president of the East Bronx History Forum.
