Summary
Bring your camera, and join Museum at Eldridge Street educators and photographers, as we venture out into the Lower East Side of 2025 and see the streetscapes Sakols captured in 1975 as they are today.
Highlights Include:
Photographing historic synagogue facades, such as Romanesque Revival Congregation Chasam Sopher and Pike Street Synagogue, as well as a former Ukrainian Synagogue that has been converted into luxury apartments.
Exploring the evolution of the Lower East Side's streetscapes, such as the creation of the trendy Dimes Square micro-neighborhood.
Discovering which historic businesses survived the decline of the Jewish Lower East Side (like Yonah Schimmel's Knishery), and which moved out (Like Streit’s Matzo Factory).
Capturing the best angles of one of the oldest streets in New York (Division Street) since Colonial times.
