Summary
[Virtual tour] The little town of Taos in New Mexico became a beloved home for many artists for many decades. The first ‘Taos Society of Artists’ already settled here in 1915, focusing on landscape painting and the direct experience of Native American life and the American frontier men. But it was illustrious Mable Dodge, arriving just a few years later, who turned this colony into a major mecca for non conventional modern artists, attracting writers like D. H. Lawrence as well as fine artists and photographers. Key members of this group were outstanding masters like Paul Strand and Georgia O’Keeffe, John Marin, Marden Hartly, Maynard Dixon and Ansel Adams.
