Summary

The Midwood and Flatlands sections of Brooklyn were both established as farming communities in the 1600s by families from the Netherlands whose names now serve as placemarks in these neighborhoods. The walking tour begins at Amersfort Park, named after Amersfoort, a city in the Netherlands. The Park consists of land deeded to the city by the Hubbard family with unbreakable stipulations. This is one example that In this neighborhood, the Dutch, though long since dead, are very much, still around.

We will walk to Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church on Kings Highway and 40th Street. We will spend some time in the graveyard, where members of noted Dutch families rest. If time permits will enter the church towards the end of the Sunday service and a member of the church will provide a brief history of the Lutheran Church in Brooklyn for our tour.
Event Registration is closed.
