[In-person tour] Sandwiched between two parks with lush greenery, Morningside Heights offers sweeping views over Manhattan and New Jersey while feeling surprisingly removed from the city below. A relatively young neighborhood in terms of urban development, it quickly became a center for education, religious life, music, mental health, and medical innovation. On this tour with Zack Rhodes we will explore the largest church in the United States built on the former site of one of New York’s oldest beer gardens, visit a former orphanage where President Polk once spoke, and talk about what once stood where Columbia University’s campus now sits today.
