Summary

Greenwich Village has an important association with the life and times of Fiorello La Guardia. Regarded by many as New York City's greatest mayor, La Guardia was born in the Village, his immigrant parents made their home there, it's where he got his political start and it was the scene of his first battles with Tammany Hall. This tour will visit a number of La Guardia-related sites in the Village as well as discuss the role the neighborhood played in shaping mass immigration (and vice versa), its political history, and its architecture and many cultural contributions to 20th century New York. In sum, with New York's most colorful mayor and one of its most culturally-distinguished neighborhoods both on the agenda, we'll have no shortage of matters to discuss. Guide Stephen Eide.
