Summary

During the mid 19th century, millions of German immigrants arrived in the US via Castle Clinton and many of them made NY's East Village their new home. We will virtually travel from Astor Place to Tompkins Square Park, passing many of the landmarks that still remain as testimonies of this era, but we'll also be able to travel through time via shared images and explore the socialist meetings, beergardens and dancehalls, cigar making, piano factories, breweries, sports clubs and processions...until the General Slocum Disaster and WWI brought an end to it all with a big shift to the Upper East Side and assimilation.
