Summary

Come walk 9th Avenue’s rows of preserved 19th C buildings in Hell's Kitchen, envision immigrant peddlers hawking “fresh sausages,” “oranges for sale,” or “clams shucked while you wait!” in their open-air Paddy’s Market along a 4-block stretch in Manhattan’s Midtown West, and enjoy the cultural imprint still felt today long after the market was closed. Besides learning about its social permanence in Hell’s Kitchen, you'll see the proposed district’s architecture and how overlapping waves of immigrants shaped our past and can propel our future. You’ll understand why NY State Governor Hochul recommended Paddy’s Market for the Registers of Historic Places and hear more about the planned historical district area from lead proponent and affordable housing developer, Joe Restuccia, CHDC’s Executive Director.
