Summary

[Virtual Tour] Claes Oldenburg was one of the most influential artists of our time who was part of the extraordinarily creative art scene in NY during the 1960s. Like his fellow Pop artist, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Larry Rivers ao, he embraced everyday life in all its banality, drawing our attention to the world of objects we surround ourselves with, representing them in oversized sculptures, often made of soft fabric, but also becoming a pioneer in public art. He was part of the first generation of artists exploring performance art, curating his own shows, selling works on the streets of NY and opening our perspective to new possibilities of what the role of art could be in our lives. "I am for an art that embroils itself with the everyday crap and still comes out on top."
