Event Registration

The historic Gowanus Canal, a Superfund site, is being dredged. The Gowanus neighborhood is changing as redevelopment plans will add thousands of new apartments. Some concerns are old ones: possible flooding, adequate sewers and access to the water for recreational uses. Walk route will include notable buildings; the Gil Hodges Community Garden; the site of an underground storage tank being built to prevent sewage runoff during storms; the Gowanus Waterfront Park, Carroll Street bridge, and learning of the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club's varied activities to advocate for the canal along with canoeing its waters.
