Summary
Brutalism is an architectural style popularized in the 1960s and 70s, it is characterized by concrete surfaces and massive monolithic forms. While some view it as oppressive, others find it sublime in its ability to elicit awe and wonder through its size and scale. On this guided walking tour we’ll explore the westside of lower Manhattan and eight buildings that exemplify this style, each with a unique purpose, history, and architect.
Estimated time is about 2-2.5 hours. We’ll start in Tribeca and end in Chelsea.
