History and Arts on 125th Street

In 2008 the City Council approved a comprehensive rezoning of the 125th Street Corridor between Broadway and 2nd Avenue. The rezoning’s started purpose was to foster public and private investment along Harlem’s "Main Street," and support the growth of 125th Street as a premier arts, culture and entertainment destination and expand opportunities for mixed use housing. We'll see the Apollo Theater, The Black National Theater, The Studio Museum in Harlem, the once great Alhambra Theater, and the Maysles Cinema. On the weekend that we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., whom the alternate name for 125th Street honors, join urban planner and cultural historian Laurence Frommer on a journey down this fabled street.
