Summary
On May 2, 2005 the City Council approved a sweeping rezoning of the Greenpoint-Williamsburg waterfront that transformed North Brooklyn from a home for industry and artists to luxury housing and high-end retail. This tour will look at the ongoing impact of that rezoning on the Greenpoint waterfront. The tour, taking us from Box Street Park to Bushwick Inlet Park, will be led by area resident, preservationist and former Community Board #1 member Ward Dennis. Along the way Mr. Dennis will discuss the history of the neighborhood, open space, affordable housing, urban design and community action. Other activists involved in the community's response to the rezoning will join Mr. Dennis to give their insight on the history of the rezoning it's resulting neighborhood transformation.
