Listen to the words penned in letters, family papers, manuscripts, and contemporary essays, as well as Lenape oral histories illuminating personal experiences in what is now South Brooklyn. See images of newspaper clippings and photographs from Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper articles, Brooklyn CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) ephemera, and other primary sources offering a glimpse of South Slope at various points in time. Inspired by Betty Smith’s semi-autobiographical novel, “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,” this tour will shine a light on everyday residents and their daily habitats through their own words and images.
