Summary
[In-person tour] Join tour guide Cullen Brown for an exploration of specialized infrastructure located in West Harlem. The focus is water – both the provision of fresh water as well as processingof wastewater. We will learn about the 135th St Croton Aqueduct Gatehouse, an excellent example of adaptive reuse of our historic built environment. Along the way, we will stop at the former site of a United Electric Light & Power Company retail store on Hamilton Place. The main attraction is the North River Wastewater Plant, which the community resisted even after the Riverbank State Park was added as a “sweetener” to appease them. Please note, there is one large staircase on this route.
