[In-person tour] From the once-regal Fifth Avenue shopping corridor west, architectural historian Matt Postal traces the origins and evolution of this important midtown neighborhood, stopping to view historic department stores and distinctive blocks of tiered loft buildings by such major architectural figures as Ely Jacques Kahn and Emery Roth. Rezoned in 2025 to protect local businesses and guide residential development, highlights include a number of recently-designated New York City landmarks, such as the Barbey and Furcraft Buildings, as well as Fashion Tower.
