Summary

Architectural historian Matt Postal explores Soho in the 1960s and 1970s, when “loft living” was born and leading American artists made “Hell's 100 acres” home. Traces of a now mostly-forgotten world will be described, viewing sites associated with such SoHo pioneers as Romare Bearden, the Fluxus art collective and sculptor Walter de Maria, as well as artist Donald Judd, whose Spring Street loft is now a house museum. En route, we'll visit The Broken Kilometer (1979) and the New York Earth Room (1977). Cost: $30 / $20 Members
