Summary

Midwood and Flatlands abut each other, and they both were established as a farming community in 1636. Join us for a tour of starting at Flatbush Avenue and Avenue I (Flatlands). We will proceed down Avenue I to Amersfort Park, a small park, named after Amersfoort, a Dutch city in the Netherlands. The park was land once owned by the Hubbard family which their last surviving scion deeded to New York City for recreational use only. The Hubbard home still stands in the neighborhood. The neighborhood was once all farmland owned by the Dutch. We will walk from the park to Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church on Kings Highway and 40th Street. We will discuss the diversity of the neighborhood - while enjoying a suburban oasis right in the middle of urbanity.
