[Virtual tour] In 1929 Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Lillie Bliss and Mary Sullivan officially founded MoMA, a museum dedicated to modern avant garde art. Inspired by the 1913 Armory Show, they collected European as well as American art and even folk art. Edith Halpert, as a young pioneering art dealer was especially connected with Abby Aldrich Rockefeller and through her many artists were commissioned to contribute to Rockefeller Center, while her folk art collection is now housed in a museum in Williamsburg, VA.Augusta Savage, an African American artist who came to New York from her native Florida, became a most influential figure during the Harlem Renaissance, With limitedfinancial means her influence as a teacher and leader of her art community was substantial and not to be underestimated.Event Registration is closed.
