Summary

[Virtual tour] Atlantic Avenue is one of Brooklyn's longest and most important thoroughfares. It begins at the East River waterfront and makes its way eastward through Brooklyn and on into Queens, ending in Jamaica. It's the only east-west truck route across Brooklyn and an important passage taking goods and people from Long Island to the tip of Brooklyn, with Manhattan beyond. The avenue started out in the 1700s as a private road ending at Dutch farmer Ralph Patchen's farm on the East River. After several names in between it became Atlantic Street, and finally Atlantic Avenue. Its history runs from Brooklyn Heights to Nassau County. There is so much here that we are going to divide it into two virtual tours. The first will examine the remarkable history and architecture of the Avenue from its inception to the dawn of the 20th century. Part 2 will look at the street in the 20th and 21st centuries, during which time great changes took place. What will be the future of Atlantic Avenue? We hope you will join us. This virtual tour will use historic images to take a look at the rich past of this busy thoroughfare.

For all tours, there are no refunds, cancellations, or exchanges unless we cancel a tour. Online registration closes one hour prior to the tour start time.
