Summary

Perhaps no street in Manhattan experienced greater change in the 20th century than Park Avenue. From a gritty street of brick and mortar to one of shimmering glass office towers, this wide boulevard has many signature mid-century modern works. Such icons as Lever House, the Seagram Building and the Pan Am Building will be examined closely, as well as some of their lesser-known contemporaries, including designs by Emery Roth & Sons and Henry Dreyfuss. Recent efforts to restore and reform the street's classic modern character will also be addressed, including new towers by Foster + Partners.
