Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood has a long and vibrant African American history, including 19th century settlements at Crow Hill and Weeksville and 20th century civil rights activism. Attendees will learn about the neighborhood’s African American history landmarks, and about current debates over cultural memory and gentrification. The walk is led by student and faculty researchers from CUNY’s Medgar Evers College.
