BKSK Architects and Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects will host a walking tour of the new Battery Playscape, located in Lower Manhattan. They will highlight the design thinking and the collaborative process that resulted in this playful, plant-filled, and resilient recreational landscape that engages all who are young at heart. Nestled within The Battery, and conceived after Hurricane Sandy, the Playscape engages the energy of where the land meets the sea, locals meet tourists, and the urban bustle yields to nature. The 1.5-acre space is designed for universal full-body play that fosters environmental and cultural awareness through sustainable and water-conscious, ecologically informed features. It tells a story of resilience interwoven with play and is built to flood and recover, part of an embedded climate change narrative.
