Summary

After years, the historic Gowanus Canal is being dredged and the Gowanus Redevelopment Plan has been approved by the City Council (which has been challenged by Voices of Gowanus). Many have ideas for a better Gowanus. Attendees will be introduced to the large scope of the redevelopment and housing plans; new recreational possibilities and concerns of flooding and sewage Route will include the Gil Hodges Community Garden, walking the Gowanus Waterfront Park and learning of the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club's varied activities. Continuing to Third Street, the Gowanus Canal Conservancy's windows showcase some students' and others' redevelopment ideas. End will include viewing local artists' banners for "Brooklyn's Utopias: Along the Canal," organized by Arts Brooklyn, the Old Stone House and Washington Park. Wear comfortable shoes.
