During the early months of the COVID pandemic in 2020, a group of neighborhoods in western Queens was identified as the Epicenter—the hardest-hit area within New York City, which was the hardest-hit place in the country. Two years later, come visit the former Epicenter and see how the communities have rebounded, explore the vast mix of cultures in the area, learn some neighborhood history and even discover the positive impact that living through the pandemic has had. The tour guide is a local resident and will lead two different tours: Saturday’s will focus on Jackson Heights but also include parts of Woodside and Elmhurst; Sunday’s will cover mostly Elmhurst and Corona. Plan to have lunch in the area after the tour, as it’s the best place in the city for authentic food from a multitude of Asian and Latin American countries.
