Summary

Much has been made of Abraham Lincoln’s pivotal visit to speak at Cooper Union. But Mary Lincoln was probably a more frequent visitor to New York. Her shopping visits to New York to furnish the White House had a lasting impact. When she came the heart of New York’s shopping district was today’s SoHo – and several of the great emporia that she went to still stand. This in-person walk will explore the vibrant district she frequented.
