Summary
Beginning at the Brooklyn side of the former Vernon Avenue Bridge (now Manhattan Ave Street End Park in Greenpoint), the walk will visit a number of key industrial operations and ongoing projects that are seeking to reintroduce invaluable habitat and reconnect the surrounding communities with this historic industrial waterway. We will stop by the Newtown Creek Nature Walk, the Kingsland Wildflowers Green roofs, and Dutch Kills Tributary en route to returning to the Queens side of the former Vernon Avenue Bridge.
We ask attendees to wear sturdy shoes and prepare for industrial terrain. In total, the walk is approx. 3 miles long. There is one location with bathrooms on the route.
